4-H Member of the Month - November and December

Note:  I found out that her name was misspelled so remade the certificate for her!)

Emilee Martinez (top) and Shon Booth (bottom) have been selected as recent 4-H members of the month.  These two 4-H members were treated to a mini personal pizza, a drink and dessert.

Emilee is in the 4th grade and is enjoying her first year in 4-H.  She is looking forward to baking and entering her creations in the fair next fall.  Shon is a 3rd grader and it is his first year in 4-H, as well.  Shon shows sheep as a 4-H project.

One of the most notable things about these two 4-H members is their enthusiasm about the club.  They are both always eager and willing to help with any event.  They were especially helpful during the county fair when the Tipton club worked in the 4-H concession stand.

Congratulations, Emilee and Shon!

4-H Field Trip - May 2009

On Friday, May 8th, the Tipton 4-H Club had an end-of-year field trip. They ate lunch at Pizza Hut and snow cones at Cold Front Express in Frederick. Then the group toured the Van der Laan dairy. Before heading back to Tipton, the group stopped by for sodas at Sonic (yeah, Happy Hour!).

Wow! Did we have fun, but were we sure stinky! I hope everyone went straight home and took a shower :0). Check out the cool shoe covers they provided (thankfully!).

Thank you to the Van der Laan Dairy for allowing us to tour their facilities. It was interesting to learn how the milk is taken from the cow to the truck. The 4-H members learned a lot and enjoyed the day.

SERVICE PROJECT - MARCH 2009

As an annual service project, the Tipton 4-H Club cleans up the school grounds. This is a way for 4-H members to help serve their school and community and to help get the grounds ready for the annual Tipton High School Alumni Banquet, which is held every Easter weekend. I don't know why these pictures posted all goofy-like, but I'm too tired to change it :).

March 2009

4-H MOM
Owen Crites is 4-H member of the month for March. He will attend the April Chamber of Commerce Meeting, along with the April MOM. Please fill out a MOM forms today if you have not yet done so.

TILLMAN COUNTY LIVESTOCK SHOW
Congratulations to those who participated in the county livestock show. If you received an award other than money, you should have already written your thank you notes. If you worked in the county concession, please raise your hand.

OYE
Several 4-H members showed animals during the Oklahoma Youth Expo beginning the Friday before Spring Break and ending the past Sunday. If you showed, please tell us what you thought about OYE.

GOAT HERDSMANSHIP AWARD
Congratulations to those who showed goats at OYE. The stalls were decorated and the pens and aisles were kept clean. These 4-H and FFA members were awarded two different days with daily awards, then given the overall champion award. They were invited to attend the Sale of Champions, which was held at the fairgrounds on Monday. Those involved in showing goats at OYE were: Matraca Abrams, Brian Chavez, Bryce Coronado, Owen Crites, Zachary Crites, Ethan Cryer, Joshua Danna, Jessie Delarosa, Brett Kincannon, Clayton Kincannon, Chris Oakley, Jacob Waugh, Lauren Waugh, and Zachary Waugh. Winning this award allows us to pick our pens for next year's show.

4-H POINTS
Lori Waugh announced at the first few meetings that points would be given in various increments for attending or participating in 4-H events. Point totals are listed on back. The top group of 5-10 will have a special event in May. I am not giving out a specific number because if I say “5” but then #6 is only 5 points away, I may include them....just don't know yet.

DRESS REVIEW/IMPRESSIVE DRESS CONTEST
This is a 25 point contest!!!! The Tillman County Dress Review/Impressive Dress Contest will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at the Davidson Cafeteria. It begins at 4:00 p.m. Categories are Casual Wear (School clothes, western wear); Casual Dressy (Dockers, dress/skirts, sports jackets/slacks); Active Sportswear (tennis, sports uniform – basketball, baseball, football); Dress Wear (Tailored – for church or special event – matched suit/tie); Dress Wear (Party – 3 piece suits, formals, lacy or frilly dresses). The Dress Review contest is a sewing contest. If you are interested, let me know. You must enter certain things in this contest.

APRIL FIELD TRIP
Sometime in April or early May , we will tour the Van Der Laan Dairy and go eat pizza at Frederick. This will be after the dress review contest and will serve as our end of the year party. We may not have another meeting during this school year, but just talk about things at that field trip/party.

RECORD BOOKS
Remember to fill out your record books. They are due in the county office by July 1. To receive an award at the county banquet (August), you must have filled out a record book. However, you can still attend the banquet, even if you did not fill one out.

COUNTY OFFICERS
If you would like to be a county officer, you must have already been in 4-H for 2 years – beginning your 3rd year. Elections are held at the banquet in August, so if someone from Tipton would like to run for office, it is very important to have 10 Tipton 4-H members there to vote. Think about it!!
